all this business with 42 being the answer to life was old news to me (e.g. before hitchhiker's guide) and I didn't really understand it, like, why this number '42' was so special.
I thought that maybe 42 had some numerological meaning what with 2 being the half and at the same time the quadrate of 4, or maybe something completely different altogether...

but of course (with reading the hitchhiker's guide) I get the joke..

my question is this: did all this "the meaning of life is 42" balderdash originate with Douglas Adams? was he the one who made it all up with writing the hitchhiker's guide to the universe?

because if so..

*props to the man*

Yes. Douglas Adams (MAYHERESTINPEACE) invented it, because he is a genius. A GENIUS. Or, rather, he was. *cries* HE WAS ONLY 49! HE SHOULD NOT HAVE DIED WHILE WRITING A BOOK! THAT MAKES ME SAD!
